Parenting’s Fit Generation Run/Walk + Family Festival to Benefit the Fetal Hope Foundation

Every year, 800,000 pregnancies in the United States will face a fetal issue. With 30% of that number attributed to poor health and nutrition, Parenting magazine’s Fit Generation – a 5K run and Family Festival – is looking to do its part to help reduce that figure during its upcoming event in the greater Denver area of Greenwood Village, Colo., on Saturday, June 18, 2011.

Denver, Colo. — Every year, 800,000 pregnancies in the United States will face a fetal issue.

The Parenting Fit Generation Run/Walk + Family Festival is a three-city event series, that arms families with the tools and knowledge they need to live a healthy, active lifestyle. In addition to the wellness activities and exhibits, the Festival will donate a portion of the Denver event’s proceeds to the Fetal Hope Foundation of Littleton, Colo.

“This event isn’t just about helping existing families, it’s also about helping future families,” said Meghan Gruszynski, Parenting Fit Generation Series Director. “We want to give all families an opportunity to participate in fun fitness activities and learn about smart lifestyle habits.”

Did you mean to leave this?  I’m confused with it…could be late and I’m just not thinking clearly.

As the U.S. loses 200 babies a day to a fetal issues, and Fetal Hope is the only organization of its kind, serving as a liaison between families experiencing fetal syndromes and the medical teams that provide their care.

Roughly 15,000 families a year use the Fetal Hope Foundation’s website as a resource for support and information, with the Foundation directly supporting nearly 500 families through information, family matching, counseling, bereavement support and its Travel Grant program.

The Fetal Hope Foundation will use the donated proceeds from the Festival to help fund its growing programs.

“This partnership is a great fit for spreading awareness and support to the audiences that need it most --- those with children and those still adding to their families,” said Lonnie Somers, CEO and Founder of the Fetal Hope Foundation. “While most pregnancies end with a healthy baby in the parents’ arms, every year we are struck with thousands of fetal syndromes, and this partnership will be most important in furthering the awareness and support to those families in need.”

Held in partnership with NBA/WNBA FIT, the Parenting Fit Generation Run/Walk + Family Festival features a Certified Chip-timed 5K race for serious runners, an untimed 5K Stroller Roll for runners with babies, a Kids’ Fun Run, and a Diaper Dash for toddlers. All Kids’ Fun Run and Diaper Dash participants will receive a first-place ribbon, while the top-finishing runners in the timed 5K will receive a one-of-a-kind event trophy.

Following the racing events, families will enjoy complimentary refreshments, music, children’s entertainment, health and wellness exhibits, games, raffles, awards and more. Appearances by NBA legends and current and former WNBA players, as well as NBA/WNBA FIT prizes and giveaways, are also scheduled.

The Festival will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with its timed 5K run and untimed 5K Stroller Roll, which starts and finishes at the Boulder Running Company in Greenwood Village. The Kids Fun Run and Diaper Dash will take place at 9:30 a.m. Post-race festivities will run until noon.

The Parenting Fit Generation Run/Walk + Family Festival was originally created as a single event in September 2010 in Winter Park, FL. The Festival received such a positive response from participants that Parenting decided to expand into a multi-market event series by adding the two additional markets, Denver and Minneapolis, to the 2011 campaign.
